It is also suggested to seek the help of a person who has been through and cleared the test, as he/she is the best person to understand your worries and guide you accordingly. You should test yourself consistently till the time when you feel sure enough to tackle the questions and capable of taking the test confidently. What you must not forget is that the test for citizenship is conducted not to make a fool of you by asking questions that are extremely difficult, but it is rather done to make you understand the importance of becoming a citizen of the US.

The applicant has to clear the citizenship test and Interview to finally become eligible for the citizenship. United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) requires all applicants to take the citizenship test.

The applicant has to file Form N-400, (Application for Naturalization) first, after which he/she will be instructed to appear for an interview, at the designated time and date, at the local Application Support Centre. At the interview, the applicant will have to answer questions regarding his background and application. Then they will be asked to take the citizenship test. The test is generally based on the ability of reading, writing and speaking English.  It also tests the applicant's  knowledge about the US government and its unique history.

How Did the Citizenship Test Come Into Effect?

This test was framed on the basis of Section 312 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The citizenship test was modified to achieve a uniform testing experience for all the applicants. The new test emphasized on the founding principles of American democracy and the importance of rights and responsibilities of citizenship.

The new test came into effect on October 1, 2008. The applicants who had filed for naturalization before this date had the choice of taking either the old or the new test. The new test was made mandatory for all applicants since October 1, 2009.

Australian Citizenship Test Is Easy

Author: James Chapman

Australia is a land of immigrants. Other than the original Australian natives, all others are termed as immigrants. Some have stepped in recent years while a few had stepped in many years or decades ago, so the Government made a policy liable on every immigrant entering the country by passing a test conducted by the Australian Government and then to confirm their stay as a citizen. This test was first introduced on 1st October 2007 people applying must be 18 years of age and above, but not more than 60.

Main intention of this test is to make people aware of the culture, history, tradition, national symbol and the language of the country. Test scheme deals with the above topics which are answered through multiple choice questions. The questions given are on the above topic i.e 20 questions to be answered in 45 minutes. The test is conducted by the Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC) and for scheduling of this test people need to apply and take an prior appointment. Then a date will be issued for the same.

The test results were bad for the year, as 20% of the people taking the test have failed. This resulted in re-commissioning of the Australian citizenship test status.  Initially, a candidate had to score 60 and above to pass the test answering three of the mandatory questions correctly to get the citizenship. After 19th October, changes of the test pattern came into effect. As per the present rules, a person must score 75% and above of which 15 out of 20 questions need to be correct. There are a few questions which must be answered and that needs to be correct.  You can now only make 5 mistakes, so there is no chance of negligence.

Now the applicant must go to the Department of Immigration & Citizenship (DIAC) at Sydney or Parramatta for an appointment and have to wait for around 3 to 4 months get their test date confirmed.   In some areas people get direct appointment for the Australian citizenship test.

There are many guides available for the Australian citizenship test; it plays a vital role in acquiring the required knowledge. Some of them give you assurance of a 100 percent pass percentage, while some offer you a money back guarantee when you don't clear your tests. These are the strategies used by the publishers to get in to the grove and get an Australian citizenship so plan your move and beat the test with confidence.

What Is The US Citizenship Test?

Author: Michael Moody

It is required from all applicants for US citizenship to meet certain conditions. One among those conditions is that almost all applicants need to take an English language and a civics test. As an applicant, you should demonstrate to the satisfaction of the interviewing officer that you can read, write and speak basic English and also that you have basic knowledge of US history and government (civics).

What is the Duration of the US Citizenship Test?

The US citizenship test is not a multiple choice test. In the civics section, the USCIS officer will ask ten questions orally from the set of hundred questions. Should you answer at least six out of ten questions correctly, it will be considered a PASS in the civics section of the US citizenship test. You will be considered to have passed the civics section if you provide a correct answer or if you provide an alternative phrasing of the correct answer, which in fact does not change the meaning of the answer. If your answer is incorrect or you fail to reply to the questions, you will be considered to have failed the civics section.

Your speaking, reading and writing ability and how well you understand English will be evaluated during the interview. Out of the given three sentences, you should be able to read one sentence correctly to let the USCIS official know that you have understood the meaning of the sentence. To prove your writing ability, you should write one sentence correctly out of the given three. Your speaking ability, in fact will be judged by the way you reply to the questions or communicate with the USCIS officers during the interview. Conferring citizenship will be decided also on how well you have performed in the US citizenship exam. Since the questions asked are very few, one can imagine the time it would take for the citizenship test to get over.

However, not all are required to take the test. Based on the applicant's age and if the applicant has medically determinable physical or mental impairment, some applicants can be exempted from taking the US citizenship test.

Applicants above 50 years of age who have been permanent residents for periods totaling at least 20 years AND applicants above 55 years of age who have been permanent residents for periods totaling at least 15 years need not take the English test. However, they should take the civics test but can take it in a language of their choice.

Whereas, applicants above 65 years of age who have been permanent residents for periods totaling at least 20 years need not take the English test. Even under this category, applicants have to take the civics test and in a language of their choice, but this test will be an easier version and applicants will be asked about 10 questions from a list of 25.

Applicants having a medically determinable physical or mental impairment where that impairment affects their ability to learn English and civics are eligible for an exception. Such applicants have to file Form N-648 requesting an exception and this form should be filed along with the citizenship application.

Applicants eligible for a waiver of the English proficiency requirement should bring an interpreter. Most of the questions in the test remain unchanged. Only a few questions keep changing (the questions that change are those whose answers are names of persons holding government positions).

As an applicant lets check how you can prepare yourself:

It is no secret that all potential citizens dread taking the citizenship test and interview. Completing the citizenship application is a long grind for many of us. If you have completed the citizenship application and are waiting to take your test for citizenship then we can provide you with the right kind of information to appear for the test and interview

How Many Questions In The Citizenship Test?

Author: Samuel Beckett

Apart from meeting other eligibility requirements, taking the citizenship test is a part of the American citizenship process. Most applicants have to demonstrate an understanding of the English language and should prove that he/she can read, write, and speak words in ordinary usage in English. Additionally, your knowledge of basic US government and history (civics) will also be tested.

When to Take the Citizenship Test?

Once you submit the application to the USCIS with the correct fee and necessary supporting documents, your application will be reviewed. The USCIS will notify you about the date and place to get your fingerprints taken and subsequently, will notify you about the interview.

As mentioned earlier, you have to demonstrate that you can read, write and speak English. Your English speaking ability will be determined by how well you respond to the questions asked by the USCIS officer. You have to read one sentence out of three given sentences correctly, giving the USCIS officer the impression that you are able to understand the meaning of the sentence. However, the accent is not given much importance and you will not be failed because of your accent. In addition to these, you have to write one sentence out of three given sentences correctly. Ensure that you do not abbreviate any dictated word in the written sentence. Once you have successfully written one out of three sentences correctly, the USCIS officer will stop the writing test. It is important to note that you will not be failed because of spelling, capitalization, or punctuation errors unless such errors change the meaning of the sentence.

Coming to the Civics section, you will be asked ten questions out of which you have to answer at least six correctly. This will be an oral test. Per immigration law, you will be considered PASS if you can provide a correct answer or if you provide an alternate phrase of the correct answer, which does not change the meaning of the answer. If your answer is not correct or you do not respond to the questions, you will be considered as FAIL.

Not all applicants are required to take the citizenship test. You can be exempted from taking the tests depending on your age and any medically determinable physical or mental impairment.

What If I Fail?

If your application is rejected because of failing in the English or Civics test, you can re apply as soon as you have mustered enough knowledge in English or Civics to pass the tests. If you fail, you will be given a second chance and will be retested on the portion of the citizenship test that you failed between 60 and 90 days from the date of your original interview. If you fail again, your case will be denied.

If you think that the USCIS made a mistake in rejecting your application, you can request a hearing with an immigration official. The denial letter that the USCIS sent, will have all the details about how to request a hearing. You will be required to file Form N-336,"Request for Hearing on a Decision in Naturalization Proceedings" under Section 336 of the INA along with the necessary fee within thirty days from the date you received the denial letter from the USCIS.
